Welcome!

A hearty hello to fellow NCR CGOA members and those current and former officers who are considering joining our fine organization. I am grateful for the opportunity the membership has given me to lead this superb association.

First, I would like to offer my sincere appreciation and compliments to previous board members LT Isaac Mahar, LT Jesse Harms and CAPT John Mauger for their tireless efforts to grow the NCR CGOA and provide unique professional development and community service opportunities to our membership. They have set our association on a great trajectory that the current Board will work to maintain and build upon. On that note, I would also like to thank CAPT Marc Lebeau, LT Kevin Kuhn and LT Dave Zwirbliss for staying on to provide critical continuity for the current Administration, and LT Steve Lewis and LT Nkosi Thomas for signing up as new Board members.

The association has had an active spring and summer. Despite the ominous weather forecast, the rain kindly held off and we had a great Spring Golf Tournament in May. In June, Dave Zwirbliss organized a superb tour of Station Washington for students of the local Chavez Charter School. On July 17th the association sponsored an OPM Road Show here at Coast Guard Headquarters that was attended by over 130 officers.

As we move through the heat of Summer and into Fall the association will continue to provide more opportunities for fellowship, mentorship and volunteerism. Next up is the Coast Guard Day Picnic at TISCOM on August 5th. NCR CGOA will have a booth set up to advertise the association and sign up new members. In addition, the association will be running a cornhole tournament. Later in August, the Board will be discussing and begin planning Fall events. Some ideas from last year’s activities include Speaker Panels such as the Master Chief and Career Transition discussion panels. We welcome other ideas, so if you have a suggested topic or event please contact myself or one of the other Board members.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Warmest Regards,
